If you have all these questions in mind while preparing for your upcoming trek. You need to calm down now and read following list of mandatory stuff to carry.

  • Map – In case of emergencies or if one gets lost in the wilderness
  • Shoes –  Shoes are the soul of your trek, your companions
  • Compass – Plays an essential role while navigating through the mountains

  • Sunglasses and sunscreen – Especially in summer to avoid sun burns
  • Camera bag– If you're carrying a DSLR camera and multiple lenses consider packing a separate camera bag to protect your gear. Extra battery and memory card
  • Extra clothing – For unforeseen  circumstances, such as bad climate or sudden rain showers
  • Headlamp/flashlight – Important tool while one is camping in the mountains or trekking after dark
  • First-aid supplies – In case of emergencies, also note to carry medicines relevant to your medical condition
  • Fire starter or matches – Useful to start camp fires
  • Knife – Important survival tool when in the wild
  • Extra food and water – Always carry extra food, for yourself or if others are in need

Some extra points to keep in mind:

1. Local guides and porters: Talk to local guides before starting to know about the route. If possible, hire a guide or a porter with you who can guide the way and take care of your belongings.
2. Thorough Research on your Trek: Be prepared and research about the location well in advance.
3. Keep it light on stomach: When you are on trek in Himalayas take extra care because even a good doctor is helpless without his equipment. So avoid eating heavy meals while on the trek. Carry simple and easily digestible foods so that you get instant energy.
4. Try to avoid trekking at night:  Avoid trekking at night because the route will be slippery and full with rocks.

Happy Trekking!
